The Issues
History of working for a better future
I have: volunteered to work on campaigns, been a part of a union striking to stop outsourcing and rising health care costs. Volunteered to build a teen center then founded a non profit to provide sustaining funds and donated to rural schools without art or music programs. I have become a High School Math Teacher, these are all ways I have tried to walk the walk.
Believing in the Future
Health care: Protecting women's right to control their reproductive decisions. Giving working families, our daycare and school workers, all 'essential' workers access to health care by expanding Medicaid. We will all be healthier.
Education: Protect public schools and teachers, stop the attacks on funding. Find ways to help rural districts to reduce costs by working together.
Now is the Time
Record Private investment in our state, federal funding to bring technology jobs back to the US and diversifying our energy sources to reduce dependence on the global energy market. There is so much potential in our future right here in the 11th District. We have so much industrial capability, we are in so many different industries. WE need to seize the moment.
The Struggle
I'm not interested in culture wars or wedge issues, I do not need my state or any government to represent my values. Kansans I have met all over the country are known for honesty, hard work and doing the right thing. Those are Kansas Values. We go to Topeka to develop good policies that reduce regressive taxes, help small businesses by investing in education and infrastructure, the track record is clear. Roads, bridges and schools draw business, not ideological positions and cultural distractions.
